2002 World Series Game 7 (The Ultimate 2000's baseball game)

Being quarantined stinks! More importantly the suspension of the Major League Baseball season is pure torture to fans all around the world. In this stressful time one of the ways to break up the monotiny of quarantine life is to watch some of the greatest games of baseball past. During my trip down memory lane I decided to watch game 7 of the 2002 World Series. The only thing I remembered was a young John Lackey taking on the immortal Barry Bonds and the rest of the San Francisco Giants. Upon watching the game I realized that this is the ultimate game for random 2000s baseball players/

What does this mean? Well anyone who knows me know that I love random 2000s baseball players. I even made a 64 random 2000s baseball player bracket which I have been running on my twitter. We are currently up to the sweet 16 and here is what how the bracket looks so far. (Voting is based on who my twitter followers liked the most as players)

Here is a breakdown of the bracket for those who are interested

A random 2000’s baseball players is a guy who may not have been the face of a franchise, certainly is not a Hall of Famer, and may never have even been an all star. What they are is a player who fits into this formula: “remember _____________” If you have ever said “remember_________” then that player is a random 2000’s MLB player. For example, “remember Paul Lo Duca” “remember Rafael Furcal” “remember Eric Chavez”. So now that we have established what makes a player a random 2000’s player lets dive into the 2002 World Series game 7.

Here is a list of some of the random 2000s players in this game:

Angels:

David Eckstien

Darin Erstad

Tim Salmon

Garrett Anderson

Benji Molina

Troy Glaus

Scott Spiezio

Adam Kennedy

Giants:

Livan Hernandez

Rich Aurelia

J.T Snow

Benito Santiago

Reggie Sanders

So many great names!

Let me just say to be labeled as a random 2000’s baseball player is not bad thing or disrespectful at all. In fact it is the opposite. What I love about these guys is that while they were certainly very good players with great seasons mixed in, they all put together long MLB careers without being the most talented guys in the world. Thats why we remember them. Solid players over a long period of time and there is a lot to be said about that.

If your looking for a great throw back game filed with some staples of the 2000s please check this out!

Another great aspect of this series was the players were allowed to have their kids in the dugout with them. The MLB needs to bring this back mostly so we can have Griff Holt scampering around. I guess it probably has something to do with it being a huge safety liability…shout out to Dusty Baker’s son.
